1950s Frances Holmes Boothby FHB Sterling Silver Modernist CUFFLINKS Cuff Links
1950s Frances Holmes Boothby FHB Sterling Silver Modernist CUFFLINKS Cuff Links
For sale here is a RARE and large pair of vintage 1950s handmade sterling silver modernist cufflinks by American artisan Frances Holmes Boothby (d. 2000, Sedona Arizona). All of Boothby’s pieces were handmade by the artist herself and her pieces were often one of a kind, or made in very small numbers for multiples like her ‘bird’ series. She is recognized as an important part of the American Modernist jewelry movement, and her work was featured in her early career at two important exhibitions of modernist jewelry at The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in 1948 and 1955. These cufflinks were no doubt from her earlier years as her style became more naturalistic later on in her career. Each cufflink measures 1.1” (28mm) x 0.6” (15mm)
And the pair weigh a hefty 18.16 grams total. Marked at backs as shown with her lowercase “fhb” maker mark, “Sterling”. Excellent vintage condition with some wear & tarnish.
